Welcome to the Privacy Policy for the "Chat GPT Dialog Menu" browser extension (referred to as "the Extension," "we," "us," or "our"). Your privacy is paramount. This policy explains how the Extension functions regarding your data. The core principle of this Extension is that it does not collect your personal data; it only stores settings locally on your device and facilitates your interaction with third-party AI services at your explicit direction. By installing and using the Extension, you acknowledge and agree to the practices described in this policy.
Data Handled Locally (Not Collected by Us)
We designed the Extension to minimize data handling and avoid collecting personal information. All operations occur directly within your browser:
- Selected Text (Ephemeral Processing): When you select text and use the Extension's context menu, the selected text is processed temporarily *only within your browser*. Its sole purpose is to open a new browser tab for the AI service you choose (ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude) and pre-fill that service's input field with your selected text. This selected text is NEVER sent to our servers, logged, stored by us, or shared by us with anyone. It only goes to the AI service you select, via your browser.
- Local Configuration Settings: The Extension saves your preferences directly in your browser's local storage. This includes:
- The enabled/disabled status for each AI service (ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude).
- Custom prompt templates you create (labels and template content).
To be explicitly clear, the Extension DOES NOT COLLECT: Your name, email address, IP address, browsing history, the content of your interactions with AI services, or any other personally identifiable information. We have no backend servers storing user data related to this extension.
How Locally Stored Information is Used
The data stored locally by the Extension is used solely to enable its features for your convenience:
- To remember which AI services you want to see in the context menu.
- To store and provide access to your custom prompt templates when you use the context menu.
- To allow you to configure these preferences via the extension popup.
Data Transmission (User-Initiated Only)
The Extension itself does not share or transmit your data to any third party, except in one specific circumstance initiated entirely by you:
- Sending Text to AI Services: When you select text and choose an AI service from the context menu, your browser, facilitated by the Extension, opens a new tab directed to that AI service's website (e.g., chatgpt.com, gemini.google.com, claude.ai). The selected text (and any template prefix) is passed to that website as part of this action. This is a direct interaction between your browser and the third-party AI service, initiated by you. Your subsequent interaction is governed entirely by the privacy policy and terms of that specific AI service.
- No Other Transmission: Beyond this user-initiated action, the Extension does not send your settings, selected text, or any other data anywhere.
Third-Party AI Services
As mentioned, the Extension helps you interact with third-party AI services (ChatGPT by OpenAI, Gemini by Google, Claude by Anthropic). Your use of these external services is subject to their own privacy policies and terms. Please review them carefully:
We do not control and are not responsible for the data practices of these third-party services.
Data Security (Local Storage)
The Extension relies on the security mechanisms provided by your web browser for storing local data (settings, templates). The security of this locally stored data depends on the overall security of your browser and computer system. Keep your browser and operating system updated for the best protection.
Your Control Over Local Data
- Managing Settings: You can view, modify, or delete your locally stored settings (enabled AIs, templates) at any time using the Extension's popup interface.
- Disabling/Uninstalling: You can disable or completely uninstall the Extension through your browser's extension management settings. Uninstalling the Extension will remove its locally stored data from your browser.
Children's Privacy
The Extension is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent). We do not knowingly handle any data from children. If you believe a child may have used the extension and stored settings, uninstalling the extension will remove that data.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy occasionally. Any changes will be reflected in the "Last Updated" date at the top. Significant changes might be communicated through the extension's store listing or other means. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the new policy.
